Roy Hill Rail culverts and underpasses
08/07/2018

BHP Worsley Alumina Efficiency & Growth project, Marradong, WA.

The project consisted of five large deep-corrugated plate structures: two stockpile tunnels installed under a 28m high bauxite stockpile; and three large-span haul road underpasses.

The design challenge for the bauxite stockpile tunnels required extensive 3D FEA modelling to consider potential settlement issues. The sections of the stockpile tunnels located under the highest loads included our CBS steel reinforced, concrete-injected rib system, the first of its kind in Australia. The haul road underpasses catered for dual CAT785C Haul Trucks and spanned 13.2m to 15.3m.

We also supplied all of the CSP drainage culverts required, from our Perth works.
